December 2012: Anime Round-Up

welcome in 2013, which means I’m wishing all of you the best as per usual… I will be talking about the past and forthcoming year if I get the chance in the upcoming few days/weeks.. But first of all, the anime releases round-up of December 2012…

I do suggest you guys getting the Clannad dvd’s now they have all been released, because a blu-ray isn’t on the charts at the moment, and to increase chances more people need to buy the dvd version… Or just bug MangaUK like I tend to do by dropping them tweets and FaceBook messages stating the wish for a blu-ray release of Clannad.
As for Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom & Freezing it is safe to assume there won’t be a blu-ray version of them coming.. The one with the greatest chance to get a blu-ray upgrade late 2013 is Shiki, because it is a highly praised title in other territories, so maybe it’ll do good enough in the UK… Let’s wait and see maybe? But I wouldn’t get my hopes up too much… If Clannad can’t justify a blu-ray release there’s something very wrong in the UK anime industry in my opinion.
As for Gintama The Movie, I do see a possibility for a blu-ray re-release if the dvd sells well, and seeing it’s pretty popular it’ll depend on you guys whether or not it’ll get upgraded later in 2013 or 2014.. A Hetalia BD seems out of the blue at the moment.

Now, as for US new releases, what anime did Funimation release on Blu-Ray:

Just like in November (and past months) most releases are region A-only which suggests there won’t be blu-ray releases of most of those titles in region B territories… Black Lagoon already got released in the UK on blu-ray, and it’s very likely Mass Effect & Steins;Gate will get the blu-ray treatment in the UK (where Australia already is receiving it). I do suggest people to hold back a few months until we know more 2013 anime releases, because Level E & Tenchi Muyo might still receive the blu-ray treatment as well.. Let’s wait and see.

As for Funimation’s dvd-only releases:

Mawaru PenguinDrum might get released on Blu-Ray in the UK by Kaze, but because there’s only a dvd version in France it might not be happening.. As for Ninja Scroll, MangaUK already released a fancy LE steelbook, so get that one if you’re interested. There currently don’t seem to be plans for the other 3 anime, but it’s very likely that’ll change in the near future.

a little bit late, but it’s here. The August Anime Releases Round-Up.

Also the FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood complete collection got released by MangaUK in August. ^_^ Whether or not there’ll be a BD version will depend on how much the prices for BD production will drop next year. Every sane animefan hopes they’ll drop enough.

If you wish MangaUK to release Clannad on Blu-ray you can either support them by buying the dvd, or just let them know on their Twitter of FaceBook that’s now being led by a new guy: Jeremy Graves. Give him a fair chance, will y’all?
If you wish to own .HACK//QUANTUM on blu-ray you can either buy the American or Australian release, or let MVM know you want it. Last but not least: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt might see a US BD in 2013, but stay tuned for more news about that.

The packaging of Strike Witches says it’s region A only, but if what I saw yesterday is correct it might be in fact an A+B release since most Funimation BD’s released by Madman come from Funimation. But I’ll await a confirmation.

It’s yet unknown whether MangaUK has any interest in getting Strike Witches out on blu-ray, though I suspect the answer to be “not yet”. It’s pretty clear they’re awaiting inception costs to drop down, which is a good decision if you ask me. ^_^
In the MangaUK podcast you could hear Jerome say Fractale is dvd-only “for now”, so that sounds as if there might be a possibility it might get a blu-ray release later. Let’s wait & see.

And then the new dvd’s by Funimation which got released:

today I’m talking all about updates, as usual, but some might have forgotten about them.
Also a few region 2 supported anime will get mentioned later on. Just read it all, please. ^_^

Let’s start with the highly anticipated Ninja Scroll release, it’s possible MangaUK decides to made the BFFC logo a sticker on the shrinkwrap & that the back is a sheet like Funimation does with most of their limited editions. In the hopes of future releases I personally hope that MangaUK can manage those stickers on this release… And maybe use it on some other releases as well, just to save the amazing artwork of some anime.

So we may expect King of Thorn next year on dvd… Maybe on blu-ray too, I haven’t read any confirmations about the format yet. I’ll keep you updated.

And last but not least: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. The licensor doesn’t want any country outside Japan to release a BD of the anime in 2012. When Funimation & Manga Entertainment will be allowed is yet the question. But I wouldn’t say a PSG BD is impossible for late 2013! Be positive! ^_^ But @Desty7 is absolutely right: it’s sad news to hear:

Then, I did some research myself, and I have good news for the people that wish to own a copy of the never-released-in-the-UK-anime El Cazador de la Bruja & Sands of Destruction: both anime are region 2 supported! For confirmation see this & this. If you want to spread this fact to other animefans you could tweet about this blogpost or retweet my tweet:

Also Bamboo Blade, Nabari no Ou & Initial D (Stage 1 to 3) are region 2 supported dvd-releases by Funimation. As for the anime released in the UK I suggest you buying them, for the anime not released in the UK: Import away. I don’t expect anyone to say they have both those anime.
